The past year has brought all kinds of challenges. Among these challenges, one of the most common was how to create a work from home space that didn’t require an additional bedroom, but still offered some privacy for concentration. Some opted to make extra space in a living room work, and others decided to transform a guest bedroom into their home office.
No matter what work from home style you chose, we’re sure that the holiday season has you thinking about how you can make your home holiday ready for dinner guests and other friendly visits.
Here are six tips to help you get your home on track for the upcoming season.
No matter the number of guests you may be expecting in your space, one of the best ways to help make your home holiday ready is to create spaces for gathering. Not only do these spaces encourage friendly conversation, but they also provide an area for people to hang out for extended periods of time. Some examples of gathering spaces include comfortable dining room seating areas, kitchen islands with barstools, cozy living rooms where people can talk with others, and even recreation rooms that are dressed up with some holiday décor.

One thing that you might not think about until the holiday season is seating. With an increased number of guests, you have to wonder – where are they going to sit? For this reason, adding multi-functional seating that can be useful outside of the holiday season is ideal. Think poufs that can double as footrests, ottomans in a variety of sizes, and even storage boxes that are made to double as seating. All of these options are great for any season and can add comfort and a touch of glamour to your home.

If you were one of the people who chose to make a work from home space in an extra spare bedroom by removing furniture, this one is for you! While the extra space worked for many, others are finding that relatives coming to stay for an extended period no longer have a place to sleep. If that sounds like your situation, it’s time to revive that spare bedroom and bring it back to life! By removing your office desk and relocating it to another area, you’ll quickly be able to create a spare bedroom that works for family members. Keep in mind, when moving your desk, you may have to find a quiet space where guests aren’t going to gather. If you don’t have an additional bedroom to use, try a large closet, finished basement, or a hallway that gets little traffic. If you have space, you can even consider using your master bedroom as a multifunctional room for the time being.
More than anything, tidying up your space is the quickest and easiest way to transform your home to holiday ready. It’s true that clutter can make you feel stressed and discontent, and that is the same for your guests! Picking up around your home by putting things in their correct place will help remove some stress from your life and give guests some additional space to put their things. When cleaning up, be sure to find spaces for additional coats and jackets, as well as items like shoes and purses or backpacks. Part of making your guests feel welcome is giving them a space to put their things!
Make it Warm
There’s nothing like a cozy, warm space to feel comfortable in, especially when you’re a guest in someone else’s home. To get your home ready, make it feel warm and welcoming by adding additional throw pillows and blankets. Choose fabrics based on your specific climate and place these pieces in living rooms, bedrooms, and hangout spaces where they can be enjoyed by all. Not only will these additional items add comfort, but they’ll also make your space feel flawlessly decorated.
Along with creating a welcoming space that offers relaxation and comfort, organizing your home is a tip that can be used on almost any occasion with guests visiting. Organizing your closets that might be used during the holidays or making space on the kitchen countertops for preparing meals is ideal in almost any situation. After all, isn’t it nice when you have a clean, organized home for yourself?
